Born in 1851, pastor and evangelist George Asbury McLaughlin wrote broadly and deeply. He penned many books on holiness that have become classics, and as editor for the Christian Witness, a post he held for forty-five years, he produced hundreds of articles. At a time when the doctrine of entire sanctification was under serious attack by ecclesiastical leaders, he authored a set of commentaries in which he stalwartly set out "to reveal Holiness (either in theory or practice) in every verse" of scripture. He died in the Long Beach, Calif. earthquake in 1933.
