When the little band of English colonists who arrived with James Edward Oglethorpe set foot upon the soil of Georgia in 1733, they found themselves in a strange and alien land. The hardships which they endured in establishing their settlement in the virgin forest were eased by the friendship of the aged Indian chieftain Tomochichi, who immediately became their friend.
